In June 2024, 80 members of the Mayors Alliance to End Childhood spearheaded the passage of a mayoral resolution by the US Conference of Mayors (USCM) focused on summer meals. The resolution’s passage officially integrates the focus of summer meals into USCM’s platform and guide for its advocacy agenda for 2025.
The resolution was led Mayors Alliance member Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard (Mount Vernon, NY) and shared the nation’s mayors support for the hungriest time of year for many children in the United States. The resolution urges an “all of the above” approach to closing the summer hunger gap, including traditional summer meals, Summer EBT, and non-congregate meal service.
The resolution’s text is available here.
