“No child should ever have to wonder where their next meal will come from. As Mayor of Gary, I believe we all share a responsibility to ensure that every child in our community has access to nutritious food and the opportunity to thrive.
Childhood hunger affects far more than an empty stomach. It impacts a child’s health, ability to learn, emotional well-being, and future success. Addressing this challenge requires strong partnerships among government, schools, nonprofit organizations, businesses, faith-based organizations, and community members.
My administration is committed to supporting programs and initiatives that expand access to healthy meals, connect families with available resources, and remove barriers that prevent children from receiving the nourishment they need. We strongly support programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which helps families put healthy food on the table and serves as a vital resource for children and households facing food insecurity.
We will continue working with our local, state, and federal partners, as well as local donors and community organizations such as Faith CDC, to identify innovative solutions, increase access to nutritious food, and strengthen food security for Gary families. By leveraging public and private partnerships, we can reach more children and ensure that families know about and can access the resources available to them.
Together, we can create a stronger, healthier, and more hopeful future where every child in Gary has the nourishment they need to learn, grow, and succeed.”
