“Mayor Sheng Thao is deeply committed to ending childhood hunger because she intimately understands the struggles of growing up in poverty. Raised as the seventh of ten children by parents who fled Laos as refugees, Mayor Thao experienced firsthand the challenges of food insecurity and unstable living situations. Her own journey, from relying on social services and living in public housing to becoming a college valedictorian and co-founding a food access program, fuels her determination to ensure that no child goes hungry in her community.”
